Wellness Wednesday - Drinking Warm Lemon Water Every Morning


Drinking lemon water first thing in the morning is a habit I've had off and on for years. I first read about it when I was trying to lose those last 5 pounds of pregnancy weight. Hey, anything that will help lose a pound or two, and I'm on board! But over the years, I've learned that warm lemon water in the morning has so many great benefits!

Top 5 Reasons to Drink Warm Lemon Water 

1.  Helps with weight loss
This is what got me started! How does it help? Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which is supposed to help fight hunger cravings.  Additionally, it has also been shown that people who have a higher alkaline diet will lose weight faster.

2.  Aids digestion
Lemon water helps to flush out unwanted materials in your body by encouraging the liver to produce bile. It also helps balance the calcium and oxygen levels in the liver in case of a heartburn, lemon water can give you some relief.

3. Boosts your immune system
Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is great for fighting colds. Lemons are also high in potassium, which helps to stimulate brain and nerve function.

4. Clears skin
We know vitamin C serums applied directly to your skin helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. Well, drinking lemon water that's high in vitamin C helps to purge toxins from the blood which helps to keep skin clear as well.

5.  Hydration
We know we all probably need to drink more water. Some people find drinking plain water unappealing. Adding a little lemon to your water definitely will help!

First thing in the morning (before coffee if you can hold out), heat up some water and squeeze the juice of 1/2 a lemon. I like to squeeze the lemon first and then slice it up. Many mornings, I'll refill my cup several times to get a little extra hydration.
